This book was the final product from my final major project in graphic design. The project was titled ‘Gym Vernacular’ and set to explore the ins and outs of gym culture. The fitness industry has been on the rise for decades as people start to become more conscious of their health and wellbeing. One result of this is that gas have become a culture in itself, with its own style, language and stereotypes.
As an avid gym goer, I wanted to highlight some of these categories. The book itself explores historical context of the gym, steroid use, gym stereotypes, fad diets and it also features infographics about gym usage. The different age ranges, their average time in the gym and even what the most popular clothing brand are. The information for these were collected over a period of 40 hours.
The final book is hand bound and covered in spandex. The aim of this book was not only to have accurate data, but also to have the design of the book reflect the content in an interesting way.
